Community,
Patch 2.2 has been an excellent success for bringing the E3 Beta Project one step closer to the desired product. Luckily for the team, we were able to bust out that update before the new fiscal year. It was also managed to push out prior to COVID-19's peak, where time was much more available for almost anyone. Mandatory quarantine closings are coming to an end, so, school and other real-world circumstances are affecting our team members.
On the flip side, Left 4 Dead 2 received its first update in over seven years! With that being said, the Last Stand Update had many significant changes, some of which affect our current project's gameplay.
The Last Stand Update
As evident, the Last Stand Update brought new melee and Counter Strike weapons to the fray. With that said, the current live patch does not recognize those assets to be replaced yet. However, while these weapons, take away from the E3 demo accuracy, players will have to wait until the next patch before these weapons are removed.
Patch 2.3 Announcement
As a solution to the Last Stand's changes, yes, I would like to announce the next Beta Pack 2.3 patch. This will remove all of the Last Stand's itemization and bring back our original intended gameplay. In addition, there are a few ideas up in the air with how we want to take the project forward:
The Main Menu
The current E3-styled menu is to be in tact with all of Left 4 Dead 2's features. This isn't necessarily what we want the E3 Project to include, because the actual E3 demo utilized a limited functioning menu. This recreation is already complete, but not included at this time. The team understands that the actual E3 Main Menu has a minimal selection of content available to the player. This brings the team up to a dilemma: Do we add this adjusted main menu to include this limited selection to promote accuracy, or do we not have it to make it more user-friendly to the player base. If we did include these main menu changes, the only options available would be Campaign and Single Player, which are the only modes that support the E3 project.
The E3 Parish Campaign
Assistant manager AZ1N has a prototype of the E3 Parish campaign currently in the works. Most of these changes are accurate in accordance with the demo's playthrough. The current issue with this addon is that it takes the place of the actual Parish campaign, rather than a new campaign altogether. On top of that, the Last Stand negated all of those modifications because it is replacing the base campaign. If we manage to make the necessary adjustments, we may include the complete campaign as an entire edition to the mod. However, this may inquire about a much larger download for all players. Not the biggest of issues, but something we feel everyone should be aware of.
Other Items
There are other items planning to be added as well. Some of which include:
- Nick Viewmodels (restored from modders Hex and Sergi)
- Shotgun Reload Animations
- Charger Sounds Fixes
Videos and Media
Due to personal circumstances, our video production has been very limited. Here is the current status of our video development:
- L4D2 Beta Analysis (in development)
- 2.3 Patch Notes video (Considering)
- 2.3 Gameplay video (planned)
Again, this is just an information update to keep the community informed. Many more changes for this update will come soon. Thank you everyone for your patience. Feel free to comment below on your feelings of the desired changes.
Very respectfully,
Gigan, Beta Pack Team Manager
